Announcement: Dress and conduct yourselves professionally (ladies, no cleavage!). Everyone, remember the 4 B's - no butts, bellies, backs, or breasts! None of these body parts should be visible. Unprofessional behavior (e.g., lacking instructional materials, dressing inappropriately, arriving late to class, etc.) will result in a loss of 5 points from the Microteach II Deliberate Practice Plan.

Essential Question: How can I create a lesson that will engage my students more actively?
TO PREPARE FOR OUR CLASS THIS WEEK, DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Download and print out the Microteach II Marzano Indicator feedback sheets below. Cut each indicator sheet, write your name on each indicator sheet, and bring them to class. Students lacking their indicator sheets will be unable to obtain feedback from their peers.
2. Referring to the Microteach II Marzano Indicators one by one, look over your lesson plan for where each indicator might be naturally addressed.
On the final copy of your lesson plan, make notes (you may insert comments electronically - like I did on your Microteach I lesson plans - or by hand) of where each indicator might be naturally addressed. (By the way, the same indicator can be addressed in more than one place; in addition, more than one indicator can be addressed in the same place.) Throughout your lesson plan, where applicable, write the name and number of the Marzano indicator, such as “5: Organizing the Physical Layout of the Classroom for Learning.” If you need to change the classroom layout prior to teaching, I recommend making a note on your final copy that this needs to be done. I AM expecting you to turn in your final copy with these types of comments all throughout your lesson plan.
As you look over the different behaviors that constitute each indicator, you might get ideas of other things include in the final copy of your lesson plan. For example, a behavior under Indicator #7 is: “Teacher has established routines for student grouping and student interaction in groups.” That statement might remind you to include in your lesson plan a way to group students. Here is another example: A behavior under Indicator #26 is: “Teacher uses response cards.” That statement might give you an idea as to how you can have your students respond. You can Google “student response cards” if you don’t know what they are. They are a good way to keep your students actively involved.
Incorporating the above comments into the final copy of your lesson plan will help you have a more successful microteach performance, in that you will be purposefully addressing the ten Marzano indicators in your lesson.
3. View the presentation on Honing Your Presentational Skills, making note of things to consider as you prepare and practice your microteach.
4. Do several dry runs of your microteach lesson. Practice, practice, practice!
ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK:
1. Microteach II Implementation - Below are the Microteach II Lesson Plan Template/Rubric and Blank SCALE template. Write your first and last name on your rubric, lesson plan, and scale. Please staple together PRIOR TO CLASS the following documents in the following order:
a. Microteach 2 Lesson Plan Template/Rubric (the template/rubric can be found below) b. Microteach 2 Lesson Plan c. Microteach 2 Scale (the template/rubric can be found below) d. Reflection (ONLY IF you worked as a pair)
*IF YOU COMPLETED THIS ASSIGNMENT AS A PAIR, each pair member will be expected to participate in the microteach experience. Each pair member must take responsibility for planning and organizing the assignment. Each pair member must complete at least one part (approximately half) of the assignment. This might involve being the person who: 1) starts a first draft for the other pair member to build on, 2) develops graphic organizers, 3) gathers appropriate instructional resources, 4) does research, or 5) proofs and perfects the final version. Each member will indicate that s/he contributed to and approves the final product and will complete an individual reflection describing her/his contribution to the end product. Each individual reflection is to be typed on separate pieces of paper with the each student’s name typed on his/her respective paper. The reflections are to be attached to the back of the completed assignment. Lesson plans lacking these reflections will not be accepted.
2. Service Learning Contract (one service learning contract/service learning teacher). If you have not started working with your service learning teacher, please turn in the service learning contract as soon as you start working with this person. service learning contract.pdf
MATERIALS TO BRING TO CLASS THIS WEEK:
1. Microteach II lesson plan and all materials needed to teach the lesson.
2. Blank jump drive and/or laptop computer on which to save your microteach performance.
3. The Microteach II Marzano Indicator sheets.
THIS WEEK'S CLASS AGENDA:
Microteach II Indirect Teach with instructional aid(s) - Dress and conduct yourselves professionally (ladies, no cleavage!).
Display your learning goal at the front of your microteach classroom. You can prepare a poster with the learning goal written on it or you can write the learning goal on the dry erase board in the microteach classroom.
Although a teacher scale (an academic scale for teacher use) is required, I challenge you to also create a kid-friendly scale this time. If you would like, at the end of your teach, it might be fun to have your "students" rate themselves with the scale. Or you could have them complete an exit slip.(Templates for both are below under additional resources.)
